Allergies are a constant condition that a lot of people have to battle with and unfortunately there are no cures. There are only methods to alleviate and control symptoms. As many of you already know I have moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (also known as eczema) on top of the several other allergies that I was born with.
31.6 million people in the world suffer from eczema according to the National Eczema Association. Most people grow out of it, but one third of the people who are diagnosed with allergies grow up with the allergies becoming worse. I am part of the one-third statistic.
My entire life was spent with itchy, flaky, red skin. I spent every day after school with a migraine when I was about 8-years-old and I don’t think I have been able to properly breathe. EVER. I have spent my life cautious of what I eat or what I put on my skin and afraid I will break out in hives.
In my adult years, I’ve battled with chronic itchiness (if that’s a thing) and I have had enough. I’ve tried everything from steroid creams, oral steroids, allergy medicine, desensitization with allergy shots, even had my nose burned on the inside because I was having chronic nose bleeds. I had a few years of peace and now they are back worse than ever.
I am on a mission to find the best solution for my eczema and skin allergies. I am tired of never feeling 100% and having to be sent to the emergency room because my face was swollen from using soap I was allergic to. I know this isn’t cancer, but I do believe this is something that needs to be attended to. I want to use this frustration with eczema to fuel me to find a way to cure it or to better deal with it and I plan to share my journey and findings with you.
I want to share my experience, research and favorite methods and products in hopes that it may help others who are dealing with the same frustrations that I have. I am no expert, but I will talk to experts and doctors who might know of ways that can help keep eczema and similar skin conditions under control. I hope you all will join me on the journey and let me know if anything I have shared with you has helped you too. Stay tuned for more!
