One day, you will wake up and there won’t be any more time to do the things you’ve always wanted. Do it now.
There are only a few things that I want to do in my life-no, that I HAVE to do in my life- or I might as well have not lived at all. I’m worried that I might wake up one day and regret not living the life I’ve always wanted.
Most people tend to go through life with the thought that one day they will eventually partake in an activity they said they wanted to do. When you ask these people why they haven’t done it yet the response is often something similar to “it isn’t the right time” or “maybe later or some other time.”
The sad reality is that most of these people never get around to it. They will continue to live their life day by day occupied with something else or too scared to take a chance on the unknown.
If you are one of these people I urge you to stop thinking that way. There is no reason why you shouldn’t be pursuing your dreams, goals, or interests. There is no reason why you should not live the life you always dreamed about. It is time for you to realize that you are the only thing that is standing between you and a life full of bliss.
Here are 5 ways to ensure that you’re not putting your dreams on hold for reality’s sake. Your dreams can become reality too!
1.Set a goal
Before going straight for the gold you must have a goal in mind. Set some time aside for yourself to really think about what you would like to do or accomplish. Make sure these are things that really speak to you. For me, I know if I don’t travel and live in another country I will regret it. A life is not worth living if I can’t travel, so I must find a way to accomplish this in my life. I don’t want to look back and feel like I did not live to the fullest.
2. Have a plan
Just because you have a dream does not mean you do not need a plan. Start jotting down the steps you will have to take in order to reach your goal. Even if they are broad steps they will still steer you in the right direction and make sure you are moving towards you goal.
For example, if I plan to take a trip next year I would write out my steps like this:
- Research country (stay, food, activities, etc.)
- Create a budget based upon research
- Set a timeline: save $5,000 by February 20.
- Request time off work on set date
- Reserve accommodation (Buy ticket, reserve airbnb, etc.)
3. Do something every day to ensure you’re moving towards your dreams
Even if it a small step towards your goal make sure you do it. The point is to keep moving forward. Set a time each day to do something that helps you obtain your goal.
If I want to travel, I would set a time each day to research the countries I want to go to. I would also make sure I put a certain amount of money every day in order to save up for my trip.
4. Stay motivated
Whether it is ensuring you stay on track with your plan or playing motivational YouTube videos to keep your mind in the right headspace do something that keeps you excited and moving towards your dreams.
I like to look at pictures of beautiful countries or watch other people’s experiences when they are visiting new places. It makes me excited and puts me in a good mood.
5. Just do it! Change your mindset. You can and you will.
Put that on your mirror if you have to so you see it every day. Nothing is impossible if you work hard and stay positive. I know it is easier said than done, but it can be done! I believe each and every one of you can achieve your dreams/goals/way of life if you really want to. So go, give yourself permission to do what you’ve always wanted and follow through. In time you will get there.
