Dear Savers, Penny-pinchers and people who think they can’t afford to travel

It’s the holidays again! The time of ugly Christmas sweaters, hot chocolate, presents and hopefully some time off! By now you all have already requested some time off to spend some time with your family, but I wanted to give you some pointers on how to save up for your next trip AFTER Christmas. I know…you’re thinking it may be too early, but it’s NEVER too early to start planning for your next vacation. You’ve worked so hard all year, might as well reward yourself!

Start saving! Even if you haven’t decided where to go yet, I suggest putting a little money away each week or month to go towards your next vacation. You don’t have to be rich to travel you just have to be strategic with your money.

There are a lot of little ways you can save money like cooking instead of eating out, having a movie night with friends at home instead of watching at the theater, saving your change, or allotting a percentage of your paycheck to go towards your travel fund.

I am a visual person so I like to put a mason jar where I know I’ll see it everyday to remind me what my ultimate goal is.

I am an avid coffee and tea drinker. I love going out every morning to get a cup of delicious coffee, but now I put that money in the travel fund jar. Saving $3-4 every day can really go a long way.

I suggest setting a goal for yourself when doing this. If you want to go somewhere in June then set a goal to save money by mid-April, one and a half to two months before you plan to leave. This will give you enough time to gauge where you are financially, to buy a ticket, reserve a place to stay, etc.

If you realize you don’t have enough money you can adjust your timeline accordingly.

Consider this your Christmas present to yourself. I truly believe that traveling is a necessity, a way of life and a way of learning. This is an investment in you.

So who’s going to start saving in the beginning of 2016?

Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday!

With Love,

Camille
